This Sunday we will share the most widely read and reported miracle of Jesus – the Feeding of the 5,000 people as told by John (Jn 6:1-21). Actually, there could have been as many as 15,000 men, women and children who gathered on the hillside to hear Jesus speak. And to their surprise, our Lord fed them a hearty meal of bread and fish.

What they heard while dining with God was true bread for life – the life God has made real through the sacrifice and resurrection of His Son – Jesus the Christ. If Paul Harvey were telling this story, he would also have a piece called “the rest of the story.” And what is “the rest of this story?” Jesus’ sign/miracle was to let the people there – and us – know that God’s provisions never end and that we must always point our lives toward God and His kingdom. We need to focus on God and make sure our goal is to one day be reunited in God’s house so that we can live in peace forever.
